Possible Solutions_HE

The magnitude of environmental problems on human health calls for interventions and solutions that should be taken on multiple levels. On a local level, many countries have taken adequate measures to control environmental-related health problems. Technological measures can also be taken to reduce and stop the environmental problems from hampering human health. For instance, in China, a tower was installed which acted as an air purifier which brought a noticeable improvement in air quality, according to the scientist leading the project. In this way, technological measures can be helpful in controlling the nature of the emission as well as its impact on health and the environment.

Assessment of the control policies and methods is often extrapolated from the local to the regional and then to the global scale. Air pollution may be dispersed and transported from one region to another area located far away. Air pollution management means the reduction to acceptable levels or possible elimination of air pollutants whose presence in the air affects our health or the environmental ecosystem. Private and governmental entities and authorities implement actions to ensure air quality. As an example, the control measures at the source using catalytic converters in cars. These are devices that turn the pollutants and toxic gases produced from combustion engines into less-toxic pollutants by catalysis through redox reactions. In Greece, the use of private cars was restricted by tracking their license plates in order to reduce traffic congestion during rush hour.

Government intervention plays a key role in reducing environmental issues. For instance, a research conducted by UK government showed that deterring polluting vehicles from city and town centres is by far the quickest, most cost-effective way to cut levels of nitrogen dioxide pollution, which are at illegal levels in most urban areas. The problem of anthropogenic environmental pollution is difficult to tackle. However, a collaboration of authorities, bodies, and doctors can be an effective solution to the problem of environmental-related issues.
